Day 6

Gathering Materials for the Final Design

After a few runs through my local hardware store I managed to secure all the chrome plated steel tubing that I needed in order to build the outside frame structure. Unfortunately the hardware store only stocked 11 copper tee sections including those that I had already purchased. I bought what they had and put in an order for 13 more (4 per side with six sides) and made the initial decision not to include the horizontal cross support as from my measurements from the 3D model it would not allow the mirror to remain on a 45 degree angle. I had decided to build the mirror frame separately with the ability to be removed from the main table frame and have it pivot freely from the front top horizontal support. I'd also like to add a means of adjustment that would then push the mirror out from the front of the system, perhaps another bar mounted on the bottom of the mirror so that it can pivot and be pushed out by two threaded steel rods, one for each bottom corner.

Without the additional copper tee sections I only had enough to make up 5 and 1/2 beam sections so I used the time to cut all of the tube sections that I would need and used the tee pieces that I did have to make up the 1200mm supports with one missing a tee section. At this stage I was estimating that it would take at most three more weekends to get the final build done, one to get the copper tee fittings in, perhaps 2 and then another to wait for the glass after I had measured the completed frame and given the spec to a glazier.
